In a new study published this week, merchant services company Total Processing used YouTube’s data over the last 12 months to calculate the most viewed crypto-centric content on the video-sharing site. The analysis revealed that Ethereum captured more views than the flagship cryptocurrency in the past year. The data revealed that Ethereum videos were viewed 231 million times on YouTube. At the same time, bitcoin only had 199.9 million views, essentially making the second-largest cryptocurrency by market cap the most popular digital coin on the platform. The altcoin Chainlink (LINK) came in third with 45.7 million views and Cardano (ADA), the sixth-largest cryptocurrency by market cap, placed fourth with 43 million views. The other crypto assets with the highest views on YouTube include Ripple (XPR) with 38.5 million views, Litecoin (LTC) with 27.5 million views, Uniswap (UNI) with 27.3 million views, Binance Coin (BNB) with 25.4 million views, Tether (USDT) with 22.8 million views, and Polkadot (DOT), which received 18.8 million views during the past year. Total Processing released the study’s result as the price of Ethereum surges by 175% this year. Over the past 12 months, the price of the cryptocurrency already increased by 1,156%.
ETH and the Ethereum blockchain
ETH is the native token of the Ethereum blockchain, allowing developers to build apps on top of it. A key feature of the Ethereum blockchain is its smart contract functionality, which allows the automatic execution of tasks once the conditions are met. Decentralized Finance (DeFi) uses smart contracts to remove intermediaries like banks and brokerages in financial transactions. Ethereum is also the underlying technology in non-fungible tokens (NFTs), digital assets such as virtual pets, and artwork with unique crypto properties that can be verified on the blockchain. With ethereum’s numerous use cases, crypto investors think that the digital asset will continue to soar. Dallas Mavericks boss and Shark Tank star Mark Cuban recently expressed his bullish stance on ETH. The billionaire revealed that he now owns more ethereum than bitcoin.
